Introduction
Do you also dream of an elegant and chic staircase? Nikolai fulfilled this dream and enclosed his open staircase with custom-made wood from TOSIZE.pl. How? We'll show you how!
The function of the project
By closing off the open staircase, Nikolai not only created a visual eye-catcher but also increased safety in the house. Enclosed staircases prevent small objects from falling and simultaneously create a more peaceful and cohesive atmosphere in the living area.
The choice of materials and construction
For this project, Nikolai opted for Plywood Interior Poplar Primed, a material ideal for its lightness and clean appearance. The steps were clad in this wood species, which is not only aesthetically pleasing but also durable and resilient.
The perfect integration into the home
This enclosed staircase is located in Nikolai's hallway, creating an inviting and sophisticated look. The light color enhances the overall ambiance and simultaneously makes the space brighter and more welcoming. Perfect for an entrance area that warmly welcomes guests.
Unique features
The staircase's uniqueness is particularly evident in the custom-made panels by TOSIZE.pl. Each step and panel fits perfectly, creating a tailor-made look without any gaps or imperfections. Proof that tailor-made solutions truly make a difference.
The advantage of doing it yourself
Through this DIY project, Nikolai was able to create a customized solution that met both his functional needs and his budget. DIY offers the freedom to choose the size, materials, and look that perfectly complement your home.
Scandinavian elegance
The use of poplar plywood creates a Scandinavian atmosphere that is minimalist yet warm. The clear structure and light appearance of this staircase perfectly showcases the relaxed, natural style.
Material details
Poplar wood
Poplar plywood is ideal for interior projects. Its lightweight structure makes it easy to work with, and the even grain provides an attractive finish. Especially when primed, as here, it provides a flawless base for creating high-quality interiors.

Step by step guide
Preparation
- First, I sanded the stairs from coarse to fine with a sander and then painted them three times with stair varnish. I measured the dimensions of the boards with a laser measuring device (€15 on Amazon). I ordered primed poplar with a 4 mm rounded edge on one of the long edges.
- Since the stairs curve around a corner, the short edges had to be beveled to fit. Since the wood is so soft, I was able to do this by sanding. I determined the angles with a large set square. I then marked four drill holes, each 8 cm apart on the outside, and divided the space between them evenly.
Montage
- The board is coated with mounting adhesive on top, then pre-drilled with a 3mm wood drill bit and a 4x4.5mm screw is screwed in. I didn't use a countersink bit because I covered the screw head with a cover plate (€3 on Amazon).
Finish
- I sealed the transitions between the board and the existing stairs with transparent acrylic, which gives a much cleaner impression and protects the boards from moisture when mopped.
