Step by step guide
Preparation
- Paint all the shelves on the exposed side. Also paint the uprights where the front shelf and seat shelf meet/touch so the glue can adhere and not seep into the MDF.
- Sand the rough edges of the MDF, as they'll be too rough if you're using them as a bench. Sand three times and paint three times, until it's completely smooth.
Montage
- Place the center uprights (consider the thickness of your skirting board when ordering) and place the front board against them. Glue, clamp on, and add a reinforcing bracket on the inside for stability. Then place the other front board, again with an upright on the opposite side. Then place two uprights in the middle of those two spots for extra stability.
- Your uprights and front panel are now in place. If you like, you can now install the wall outlet—you still have plenty of freedom. Place everything in place and carefully measure the dimensions of the panels you'll be using. Starting in a corner, measure where the shelf will go and place an upright there. Make sure it's level.
- Apply glue to the uprights and attach the seating planks. Apply sufficient pressure to the planks to ensure the glue adheres properly.
Finish
- Place the drawers in their correct positions. Touch up any spots with sandpaper and paint.
